Charleston County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a shots fired and home invasion call at a home in Scott White Road in Hollywood at approximately 11:02 a.m. on Thursday morning.
According to Sheriff’s Department reports, when deputies arrived on scene two men were seen fleeing from a residence on bicycles toward the back yard of the home.
Deputies proceeded to the rear of the home and were confronted by an armed man at the back door of the house. Law enforcement instructed the man to drop his weapon at the subject. The man refused. One of the deputies fired his service weapon, striking the subject in the neck.
Emergency crews transported the subject to MUSC to be treated for life-threatening injuries. The victim said that gun fire had been exchanged between himself and the suspects who had invaded his home. It is unknown whether the victim sustained any injuries as the result of the home invasion before being confronted by Sheriff’s Department deputies.
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been requested to investigate the officer-involved shooting in keeping with Sheriff’s department policy.
In connection with the case, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office have arrested and charged Thomas Zachary Brown, 22, of Hollywood with burglary in the 1st degree and attempted murder for his involvement in this home invasion.
