Officer Accidentally Shoots Himself In The Leg

Officers of the law are required to get regular weapons qualifications tests to ensure their skills are sharp. This training helps to keep them and the people around the safe if they ever need to draw their weapon. Unfortunately, mistakes can happen. Even small ones.

In a report given by the Sheriff’s Office, a Charleston County Detention Officer accidentally shot himself in the leg as he was holstering a firearm during his weapons requalification. The five-year officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for two wounds on his leg and has been placed on administrative leave. All weapons qualification exams are suspended until the investigation is complete.

Accidents can happen in the workplace at any time. Most of the time, they are minor. This one could have been serious. Some are deadly. When you are injured in the workplace, the first thing you should do is to get medical care. Then, contact a workman’s compensation lawyer. They will be able to negotiate with the insurance company to help you get the care you need. No one should be injured while on the job, especially if it was an accident outside of their control.
