Child Death Leads To Donated Organs

Child Death Leads To Donated Organs

No one ever wants to imagine the tragedy of losing a loved one as the result of a tragic accident. That is especially true of a parent who loses their child. The parents of one very young victim, an 8-year-old girl who died after the car she was in collided with a logging truck in Batesburg-Leesville learned this first hand. However, even after losing her life at such a young age, she has still been able to help others.

The little girl, Kalieah Richardson was described by her mother, Paula, as having been “very happy. She always had a smile. She was very caring and she was very giving. She loved to share.”

Kalieah has given the gift of life to others after her family decided to donate her organs to those who needed them. Kalieah’s heart was taken to Ohio, her lungs went to Tennessee and one of her kidneys went to help with a transplant in North Carolina.

While the Richardsons may not have Kalieah with them in body, her spirit lives on and her family takes that as a comfort.

It only takes the blink of an eye and an accident can happen. No one ever knows when, where or even how an accident will occur and tragedy can strike leaving families and loved ones grieving and wondering what to do next. Organ donation is a way one way for families to make sense of such a loss, but it can still be devastating trying to put your life back together in the aftermath of an accident.
