Simpsonville, South Carolina
Simpsonville originated as a stage stop in the 1820s. Soon after Thomas Goldsmith opened the stage stop other businesses began to open as well. Silas Gilbert settled in Simpsonville to open a large general merchandise store at a high traffic crossroad. Peter Simpson also saw the business opportunity available and opened a blacksmith store next to the town’s first post office. After business began to flourish Sidney J. Wilson, a North Carolina native, moved to the area and had streets and lots drawn out in order for Simpsonville to be given a stop on the railroad line. Today many of these streets and lots remain in the original place Wilson imagined over a century ago.
Simpsonville is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and approximately twenty miles from Greenville. Simpsonville boasts South Carolina’s lowest unemployment ranking. The town has a equal mix of business and industry balancing out the areas economy. With 28 civic clubs and 93 residential communities, there seems to be a niche for everyone in Simpsonville and numerous ways to get involved with the community.
